FamTreeSwirlWelcome to the W.H Grant website.

This website is dedicated to W.H Grant and to his second cousin Auguste Boucherie. Both men showed exceptional dedication for tracing and recording their complex and somewhat prestigious family lineage.

Our intention for creating this website is in the hope it will provide one access point where all documents, letters, photos, videos  and short biographies can be accessed and displayed in a cohesive way.

In 1907  Auguste Boucherie sent a notebook and letter to WH Grant. He requested his cousin’s assistance in relation to his ongoing family research. Auguste had heard that WH Grant was interested in his family lineage. He also heard that he had married twice and had many offspring living in Australia resulting from the two marriages. He asked his cousin to fill in unknown information regarding WH Grant’s somewhat complex family and to correct any errors Auguste may have made within the pages of the notebook.

This humble yet significantly important notebook, over a century on, would become known to future generations as “The Black Book”. We are unsure if WH Grant obliged his French cousin’s request for information but he did set about drawing up a magnificent genealogical chart of The Grant Family; a family lineage of which he was no doubt truly proud.

Within the pages of this website we wish also to acknowledge the hardships and triumphs of W.H Grant’s large and somewhat complex family by digitally recording the many letters, documents, photos and videos collected and preserved for future generations to enjoy. We have included collateral relationships between individuals who are connected by common ancestors but are not necessarily related in a direct line.

The Grant Family Tree has been subject to great interest over many generations. The original documents contained within this website are largely in the possession of Marie Gamble (nee Grant). Alby Gamble (Marie’s husband) collated the Grant Family history from genealogical research done by others, particularly their daughter Sandra Gamble.

This website is a work in progress by Martin and Julia Brinkmann. Any information you may have in your possession to help it grow would be very much appreciated. We would be pleased to hear from you and can be contacted by email info@whgrant.com.au
